Here's a Canadian made electric piston water pump, model #242, manufactured by the Dominion Appliance Company in Fergus, Ontario. It's belt-driven by a top-mounted General Electric model #11F3DX, Type KH, 1/4 HP, 1725 RPM electric motor. The pressure switch is a Pumptrol Class 9044 made by the Square D Company in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. All the components appear to be original, or at least of similar age.

For me it's a work of art and I had to have it, functioning or not, for a mere $20 at a yard sale. It was fully operational and runs as quiet as an old treadle sewing machine with a pleasant thumpa-thumpa sound! The seller said the dual pistons were throwing oil and needed new seals, but otherwise everything else was okay.

I plan to take it all apart to clean it and remove the red paint, which somebody had slopped on at some point, and I don't think is the original colour; then I'll repaint it a British racing green with black and copper accents and pinstripes. I'll replace the oil seals and put it back into use as a water cistern transfer pump on my property.

It measures approximately 19" wide x 8" deep x 20" high. The flywheel is 13.5" in diameter. It's very heavy! I haven't been able to find photos of this pump online, nor any information regarding dates and such. Would love to find a user maintenance manual if anybody on the odd chance happens to have one.

Very cool Kydur. What age do you think?

Not really sure about the date. The manufacture tags on the pump and motor were painted over in red and then partially sanded/scraped off again at a later time, leaving them quite badly scratched up and difficult to read. I haven't been able to find any embossed dates or patent numbers anywhere on the housing or other parts, but then it's so heavy and awkward that I haven't been flipping it around much either! Maybe once I take it apart I'll start seeing some helpful marks and I'll give an update.

The only pumps I could find online sort of similar in appearance were F.E. Myers piston pumps, dated from the late '20s to the '50s.

I will have done the same, working or not, great find kydur.
Working even better then the new model available today, build like a Tank.
BTW , long time no see, if you email your address I will send you the frame, unfortunately the one you see on our last communication was the only one with the good measurements.

Alan, I found a frame that I think will suit my purposes. It needs some repair and refinishing, so it's yet another project, but I think I'm good. Thanks for the offer though.
