This wooden Stickhorse was left to me by my mother who passed away 2 years ago. She sent away for some items from a department store online and when the things that she ordered came, to her surprise when she opened the box, it wasn't the things that she ordered, it was this stick horse. we did not know if there was a mixup in the orders or maybe this very old toy was being shipped to a museum or what. As we tried to find out information on this wooden stickhorse, we have gotten nowhere and now It was passed on to me after my mother's death and I am still trying to find out about it.
Wow, now that's an antique!
I'm very interested in this as I have come across an identical piece at a garage sale. Do you have any indication of a value?
I have an identical horse too, in very good condition, very colorful. Got it on eBay and not sure of present value.
I also Have one identical to this one in perfect condition. I have not been able to determine the time period or value of it. The metal banded wheels say it is very old and the head is hand carved I think.
Any information would be appreciated.
I agree! I do not know where to take it to find out its value!
I found an identical one of these in an antique store in Aurora, OR. I fell in love with it and went back to buy it about a month later. It was no longer there. After talking with the owner of shop I was told the consigner had taken it out of that shop and had taken it to the coast to sell. She gave me the phone number and I was able to drive to the coast to pick it up. I have since purchased a similar one, but I think it might be newer, off ebay and one like the second one on craigslist in Arkansas. My husband thinks 3 is enough, but I am going for a herd. It would be interesting to know the value of this.
I have followed this with some interest. I,(for free) will add my two cents. I do not think they are old at all. The pictures indicate to me a manufactured look. There is a business of making props for store decorations and this fits. If truly antiques why are so many popping up? If your Mom ordered it online then that is the age I would attribute to this piece.
A friend of mine bought an "antique" in Central America. He was proudly showing it off to a local when he was told (paraphrase) we make stuff here: you want 100 year old,we bury 1 month; you want 200 year old we bury 2 months.
I didn't say that my mom bought it online, I said that she ordered something else from a department store and was shipped this stick horse instead, what I believe is that this stick horse was on its way to some other location and was mixed up with my mother's order.
I have 2 of them stick horses they were made in the 50,s. I will try to find the Name of the person who made them. He made several of them it has been a long time since I looked up the information on them and did not save it. I was told the value of them was about 50.00. I will search the info and post it for you. And it is all hand carved.
This is a reproduction horse that came on the market around 1990 and offered through Spiegal catalog and and Antique repro supply company. 2 companys I know for a fact sold them at 95.00 each, as I bought one for my mother as a birthday gift, of which I have now inherited. It is the exact same paint and paint detail.
