My parents, bought this as one of their first big purchases in Glendale. It is an early 1950's Italian? piece with pillar bottoms made of what I believe to be plaster hand painted with gold. The edge of this table is a rough look with the same hand painting technique and finally the top of the table is a marble and glass top.
This has gone through 4 kids, 3 foster kids, numerous dogs, many many entertainings, and it still has zero dings or scratches. The way things used to be built!!!
Of course the evidence is under the bottom of the table is where my brother and I used to lie on our backs and write with a pencil. Only two places letting anyone else who may end up down there, we were there.
I love this and the entire house was designed around these colors, white, off white, and gold!
Time has come to let these things go and it's hard to know what to do with many of the beautiful furniture that adorned the home. I've never seen anything like this and I would LOVE anyone to let me know any history or what style this is. It's about 80" long, 18" tall.
You are right that it is Italian and popular in the 1960's to 70's. I used to find a lot where I lived. One thing about them is that some pieces had fine marble tops like porta marble which is rare, and I used to buy some of them just for the marble tops.
I have a file of pices of pieces that I found. There are a lot of them on ebay also. I have seem pieces similar to yours but yours is a particularly nice one. Some were marked and dated.
