As a teenager, I loved precision work. I haunted a machine shop until they finally took me on as an apprentice. I bought this Brown & Sharpe micrometer with my 1st pay in, maybe, 1960. Wish I could say my talents helped, but then I took an after school & summer job for several yrs. working for an optician, grinding & cutting lens to fit diff, shape frames for real doctors. These Bausch & Lomb calipers are very accurate & were for measuring 4 sides & centers of lens as we ground them to fit the prescriptions. Those were the days when we took an 18 m/m chunk of special glass, cut the general curves with a diamond cutter machine & then finished grinding & polishing by hand with other "obbie-doodie" machines. Kept an oil drum for rejects the we sold to "Houseof &8 fifty " and such places by bid to peddle to people who believed their advertising.
I still use both calipers at times.
Threw in the last 2 pix because I hate to waste unused space. Hit by a hurricane last Nov. that the U.S. NHC forgot to tell us about & had 10 planes flipped into the mangroves & this is 1 of only 2 planes we can save. (with new wings). Just shared pix with Roy a few days ago before he suggested we swipe a plane, with a heart patient as pilot & fly down to look at the Panama Canal! I don't even want to fly with me!!
Actually good childhood memories, if you can believe that!
I have a toolmaker in the family and so really appreciate precision hand tools. Great to see these. Your plane? Would have been happier to see it without any damage, but probs not as much as you!
Not my plane racer but one in my stable to maintain. Give me plenty to do after the new wings are painted.
Great Toys BB2 :)
I certainly didn't expect such a response on these toys. I don't poste things on weekends because it's too busy then & we all are forced to skim. Glad so many appreciated these & thanks.
