Another addition to my hat trunk collection. This is a lady's hat trunk from the late 1800's to very early 1900's. It was manufactured by Liprosta, of Dresden, Germany. As you can see, their distinctive trademark logo was a pyramid with stork carrying a trunk.
The Liprosta hat trunks were slightly higher quality than most hat trunk makers. The Liprosta trunks all had lots of high quality heavy brass hardware and very high quality leather trim and handles. Built to last!
I own another Liprosta hat trunk. But, this one has a feature that my other Liprosta trunk does not have. The front panel drops down for easy access. I really like that unusual feature.
This trunk would have originally had 6 hat pin cushions inside of it, for pinning the lady's hats to. The clips are still there, but the hat pin cushions are long gone, as most usually are. Based on the age of this one, it's still in quite nice condition.
Thanks for looking!!

wow a beautiful trunk for hats ...
I always wonder where you find these fab trunks Scott!
That logo is so cool.
Awesome -- very nice find. The first trunk I ever had, as mentioned, was this maker -- so this has a nice familiar feel to it for me. Montrealer's must not have been into hats at the turn of the century -- I just do not see any coming up -- except for that huge one I have. Kudos on your collection jscott...
I like the Stork logo.
Sean, thank you for the kind comment and the love. I thought it was beautiful as well. Thank very much!!!
racer4four, I guess I just have a good eye for finding these. I sometimes have to make 200 mile round trips to get these. But, I usually won't travel any further than that for one (Unless it's an extremely rare trunk). Thanks for the love and for stopping by. Always appreciated!!!
trunkman, thanks for the kind comment. I think your collection is far more extensive than mine and VERY beautiful!! Thanks for the love and stopping by. Always appreciated my friend!!!

What a handsome hat box. I never knew they had areas to keep the pins & I love the way it opens.
Thank you Fran!! The hat pin cushions are most always missing. People tend to remove them to make more room inside of the trunk. Unfortunately, they never get put back in the trunk and end up in the garbage somewhere.
Thanks for the love and for stopping by. Very much appreciated!!

Drill, Thank you for the love click and for stopping by. Always appreciated my friend!!
I think that it is Unique to have an item made by a manufacturer prior to WW2 from Dresden. As we know, that the city was incinerated Feb. 1945, Many Debates about the death toll, no debate about 3,900 tons of high explosives and incendiary devices used. To me trunks like these are important finds of history.
Drill, I did not know that about Dresden. I agree with you that these are important finds and should be preserved to pass along to future generations and share the history with them as well. Thanks for you r wonderful comment my friend.
By the way, I look so forward to your posts and can't wait to see what little beauties you have in store for us.

Holy smokes!!! Dresden was literally destroyed. I had no idea and never even thought about looking any of this up. Unbelievable, that an entire city could be brought down like that.
Thank you for the links Drill. That's really amazing. Sad, but amazing.

Oh wow!! That one looks identical to this one doesn't it? No T-man, I rarely see any of these Liprosta trunks. But, I do keep my eye open for them when they come along. Thank you T-man for the link. Very cool!!
