I need some help with this one. I've looked around online and I think this is a Martin Maier but I'd like to hear from some of the more experienced out there. There doesn't seem to be anything that I can identify it with for sure, nothing I can find anyway. Any help would be appreciated, as always.

I picked up this trunk today, and the one I posted previous to this, pretty much by accident. I saw an add on Craigslist that some guy posted who said he was running out of room in his pole barn and so he was having a sale to get rid of some of it (you know, so he can fill it with more stuff LOL). The pics showed a bunch of old rusty junk, lots of guy stuff, so of course I headed that way. When I got there I walked in and these two trunks were at the back of the barn so I asked what he wanted for them and he said the slat trunk was 35 dollars and the huge one was 40. They're both really rough and rusty but I figured for 75 dollars I could hardly go wrong so I loaded them up and headed home.

Yes ! More than Likely a Martin Maier. Fits the bill flat top with beveled corners.
Alternating light and dark wood slats. That is their natural color. You can find almost this exact trunk at" This old trunk.com" Marvin Miller refinished one of these
a while ago. Nothing ordinary about this model, top of the food chain.Rough shape
but someone will make love to that thing and make her whole again.I would reach out to Marvin Miller or Jim Cardoza at HMS trunk before I got started.

It is a wonderful piece, Just a note: the Taylor latch bolt #2 (that's the small one on the right, not the large latch bolt on the left ) is the correct latch for the piece.
This should be the rear hinge patent.Much luck with it.

Thanks for the info Drill. I noticed that Maier trunk on Marvin Millers site when I was looking around for similar trunks, that's why I suspected it was a Maier. They're pretty similar in construction, if not condition, but I figured I'd ask and see what people here thought. I think I might just sit on this one for a while and possibly get hold of Marvin Miller and see if he would take a look at it, maybe get a quote from him. He lives a couple hours south of me so if he has time I might just drop by with it and see what he says.

Thanks for he comments and loves folks.

Great finds and wow, what great prices! I'm jealous that you found two great trunks together.. a rare find. Yes, a Martin Maier slat trunk from the late 1880's to 1890's. I had one exactly like that model not long ago, with the exact same tray. I love the alternating color slat trunks and they made them in various sizes and shapes and with different types of hardware.. so they don't all look exactly the same. Super trunk!
