The item displayed was located in the South Bronx's I New York City a few days ago.
The painting is an oil on canvas that measures about 36 x 44 inches. The subject matter is probably serrealist of European origin, maybe Russian.
It is signed with a monogram of D, centered with a V.
I have no knowledge of this artist.
I welcome any and all information pertaining to this item.
I would have thought it might be of russian origin as well...malewitsch influenced and by futurism it seems... anyway a nice piece! Nothing on the backside?
There is no writing on the back.
I agree with getthatmonkeyoutofme, seems to be someone influenced by Marc Chagall's work so I would guess Russian
The original painting was indeed by Marc Chagall, called "Over Vitebsk" (a town currently in Belarus, formerly part of Russian Empire), Chagall's birthplace.

Not sure who (re?)produced and signed this one, since Chagall signed his works with his actual name to the best of my limited knowledge of his art. Very intriguing.
here's another variation of this painting, more similar to the one in question
