This Oregon newspaper is the Portland Evening Telegram, dated 14 November 1918, three days after the Armistice ending WWI was signed. Of course being an American paper, most of the focus in on America’s role in the war.

Although the war is over, the propaganda machine is still grinding out the news, with full reporting on German atrocities as the Americans advance (unopposed) into their areas of occupation. There are photos of celebration in the streets of Portland, and news of the people celebrating in the streets of Paris (as well as German spies being executed – upper right corner of third photo).

But turning to the obituaries, we see the news from the front is not all gladness as families continue to learn of the losses of their loved ones.

    Remembering Armistice Day

A thoughtful Veteran’s Day to America

And heartfelt regards to our friends everywhere this Remembrance Day

Great post remembering the Brave, the Proud & those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
The newspaper you chose, reminded me of a pocket watch I posted, advertising The Evening Telegram of Portland, Oregon.
