This costume brooch cost me twice as much as my gold ring - LOL! I think this one is unusual. Notice the fingerprint on the wing...it's not mine! It doesn't come off, either. The brooch weighs next to nothing. Only the lucite - is that lucite? - decorations add some substance to it.
Is this something from the 1940s? Has a funky square angle clasp.
2 1/4" wingtip to wingtip and 1 1/4" from antenna to bottom of wings.
Thanks for looking!
The clasp is early 1900s, if I'm not mistaken. What a lovely brooch, Bonnie, though it could use a bit of kyratango-izing! :)
katherine - that old? Really? Wow...and yes, it definitely needs a sprucing up via kyra!
I wonder whose owns that fingerprint.
Cute flutterby :-)
Confetti lucite is the material of the wings.
Kath is mistaking for the date, it is far less old, I'd place it in the fifties !
Can't see the finger print, it seems in good condition!

kyra - Confetti lucite - another thing I have learned today. Enlarge the last photo and look at the wing on the left - there is a great big finger (or thumb) print there. 1950s is good, too. The metal looks like very thin brass, but not sure about that, either.
Aaaah, Last pic, on the left...
From my data base, it belongs to Malvina Belphegor's right thumb!
;-D
kyra - ROTFLMAO! hahaha! :D :D :D
Efesgirl, This is really very cool looking (finger print and all).
I'm wondering why the colours of the wings are so different?
jscotto363 - thanks! This brooch is soooo light that I expect it to fly off any second now! I would still like to know how a fingerprint became permanently embedded in the metal...strange...
The construction, clasp, and style looked older to me, but I always defer to kyratango's greater knowledge. :) And she IDed the thumbprint, how crazy is that! ;))
Gillian - I haven't a clue. The brooch looks to be all original.
katherine - I wonder if Malvina will want her brooch back...she ain't getting it! haha
What a beauty I love it.
would guess more from late 60's from japan
maybe 70's
