One of my favorite things to do while collecting is to take chance on a low cost mystery item. I've been burned a couple times, but mostly it's fun and I come away happy. Like with this 4"x6" mini crate.
Listed as an "antique general store bottle cap collector" (is there such a thing?), I recognized that the stamped logo & handles, size, quality of workmanship, and patina screamed Old Coke. So for under $20 delivered I took a chance.
Later I found it listed in Petretti's 10th. I tested it for size with 6 bottles from my 30's six-pack mini and they fit perfectly. Now the trick becomes finding 24 of these bottles to bring the crate back to full life.
In the meantime, it holds tools of the trade.
I dug up one of these miniature coke bottles they are so cool love the crate. Never seen this before.
That's awesome!! It's also the first time I've seen a Coca-Cola bottles of that age. Very nice!!!
YOU really came out great! I'm impressed! Great find!
Thanks Caper, jscott, and bb2. It shows it's age, that's for sure.
Don't know Dave...it could be an antique drug store cap catcher? Nice find, you'll find the bottles. Always makes searching more fun.
That's a sweet deal Dave
I would pick up a doz. of the bottle lighters for cheap(they often can be had for a few $ each) ,and fill it with those!!
Nice find Sensei!!
Finding a cool display item that can display other items? Win, win!
Thanks CK, Bernie, and Chad. Will not be easy nor quick (nor cheap) to fill 'er up with the right bottles!
Ah, just put canned Cokes in there! LOL!! Always the purist!
You're right bb2, I think I'll just enjoy it empty and not worry about the bottles.
