I found this lovely all leather trunk at a Consignment Shop. I was drawn to it, and couldn't pass it up. It is 37" long by 20" deep and 23" high. Everything is intact, the straps, handles, and inside compartments. I really don 't know anything about it. (Maker , age, value). If anyone has any information on a trunk like this, I would love to hear it. I bought it in Helena, MT. At one point in time there were more millionaires per capita, than anywhere in the US because of the gold rush. Every now and then a treasure pops up!

Deb, Beautiful Sole Leather trunk!! These were made in the later part of the 1800's. They were made completely of leather, with the exception of the steel spring bands that give the trunk it's shape and the wood frame around the top of the base. These were higher end trunks. I have one myself that I posted last year. Mine is made by Portfolio, but there were other manufactures of these as well.

You might contact Mr. Jim Cardoza, of hmsantiquetrunks.com. He knows a lot more information on these than anyone else I know of.
Here is the link to the one I posted last year.

Thanks so much for the information you gave me. This is helpful. What a great sight. I'm sure I'll be sharing other items. Love the show and tell aspect of this sight.

Very lovely example and just great that the leather has been so well maintained -- these often get stained over the years but this one is pristine for its age.

Hello. Your trunk was made by Romadka Bros. Trunk & Bag Co. Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The closest one I can find in my catalog is called the "X Ladies". Same interior & exterior except for minor changes typical for trunk makers much like the auto industry. The lock cover & patent Romadka corner hinge & stay, are dead giveaways as to the maker. Time period is most likely the mid to late 1880's, but a closer examination of the lock may provide confirmation. In any case nice trunk and in good condition for leather. You can contact me through my website or email, jimcardoza@pacbell.net, for a copy of the catalog entry, and any other info.
