I love these photos. My great grandmother, far left in the first photo, was the eldest child of Swedish immigrant farmers. She didn't have any brothers, it was just her and her three younger sisters to help her parents with their farm. As you can see in the first photo, they were always able to find time to have a laugh and just be kids. I love it, it's like a real life black and white photographic version of Rockwell painting. The second is my great grandmother bringing water to her father out in the fields. It's like a Dorothea Lange photograph of my own family. They didn't have much in the early days, but they were damn proud of what they had. After ten or fifteen years on the farm, he had built up his farm enough so that he could sell it, along with the horses and all the crops, and buy a house in the city. His main reason was that hard labor on a farm was not fair for young girls.
Love the photos!
