This is a huge rail road lock. It says property of Pullman Silver Palace car company. It hung outside for years at my dad's house by his grill. When he sold the house he gave it to me I have always been fascinated with trains. Thanks for looking.
Hi, Unfortunately there was no such company as "Pullman Silver Palace Car Company". As with other types of collectables in any field (sports autographs, jewelry, clothing, watches, etc) people make fake items. This is one of those items. The problem is that most of these items are advertised as fakes or reproductions by the manufacturer. Once it leaves the manufacturers hands anyone can represent anything any way that they want. There is no regulation saying that reproduction or fake items have to be marked in a PERMANENT way. Many times it is a paper label or sticker that can be removed or fall off on its own over time. It works as a lock, it represents an old style lock. Use it, display it, but take the owner's name with a grain of salt.
As a side note, Pullman Palace Car Company was the original name of the Pullman Company. The addition of the word "Silver" is what marks the item as a fantasy or fake.
Very interesting! Thank you for the information Pajrr. I did look the name up this morning. There are a lot of fakes with the Pullman Silver Palace name locks, lanterns, & spittoons. It's crazy the things people go through to make a buck. I would of never of thought it was a fake. Thank you one again Pajrr.
I'm going to be posting some pictures of my grandfather's copper train. Could you give them a look, and tell me your opinion?
