this is supposed to be an old school's wall picture with a panorama of paris. as you can't see the eiffel tower is missing and out of that reason i think it should be from circa 1880. it is on old canvas, printed in four parts, which can be fold together for a better storage. it is quite huge....

i have four of these old carts all together showing different themes...
this panorama of paris, an old living room with a fimily, a winter landscape with children playing and a spring country landscape.
    one is signed E.Beck
if anybody knows more about E.Beck or this kind of lithographs please please let me know

hopefully it is paris.... how is the building in the left quarter named?
    2. estsalejunkie estsalejunkie, 9 years ago
The picture on the left (showing all four quadrants) is definitely Paris. But after enlarging to get a better look, there is one feature in this group that does not seem to jive. The large building which appears in the left center is a large portion of buildings that make up the Louvre museum. (Louvre buildings connected in sort of a U shape, where the glass Pyramid now sits in the center) Looking west to east, the Seine river would be on the right. Strange, however, it looks as if there is a river over on the far left (blue, in color) with bridges going across it. It's possible this view might be looking from east to west. The sky seems to match, but a closer inspection might indicate otherwise. This picture would imply that there is a river running long both sides of the Louvre .... That is definitely NOT the case. Looking at the Louvre from this angle, the Rue du Rivoli is a street that runs along that (left) arm of the Louvre. Is there tape on the back side of this group which might indicate that this foursome has been pieced together? Nice, very interesting old panorama, but some things just don't seem to mesh correctly. The right side doesn't seem to match the left.

no there is no tape on the backside.... paris has been rebuild that days i think and the question is if it looked that way in the past?

This one is out of the series "geographische charakterbilder" made by eduard hölzel, circa 1865-1870
eduard hölzel started with this kind of school materials in 1861 after he moved to vienna
      Unfortunately only in german language:
