Got this Bible from a yard sale this past Sunday. The binding says "The Parallel Bible" and the inside says in color "The Pictorial Family Bible". This thing weighs 14.5 pounds and the Bible section alone (without concordance, dictionary, etc) is over 1300 pages.
There is wear and tear on the outside where the leather is coming off, but the inside is almost perfect - there are only two pages with small rips but the whole page is still there. The front cover is not connected.
The Bible pages are gilded and the front looks like it's gold. There are around 2000 illustrations, some in color. This thing is so neat! It does have writing about a marriage, some births and a death.
I'm wondering what type of value this has? I bought a mixer at the yard sale that was marked $30 and I asked for this and the mixer for $30. They accepted the offer. I think I got a steal but I have no clue what this would be valued at.
Regardless, this is my most amazing find ever! I also found papers inside the Bible (newspaper clippings, a marriage certificate, a "God Bless This Home" photo-electrograph, and more - I'm trying to get the original marriage certificate back to the family).
Try familsearch.org. They are an awesome source for things like that.
I am curious what names did you find in the Bible ?
Sorry, I didn't see that anyone wrote on here! Keim and Kenner were the names.
I found the same Bible published in Nashville Tenn. Have you found out how much it's worth? I have names also in the birth and deaths. Hard to read the names but 1884. Frank james to Hattie Duintehett (the D could be a Q)
My grandma gave me this today. My aunt got it for her but she gave it to me. So far in it i've found a report card from 1916 from "Miss Mason's School." Also i found a postcard from Adirondacks N.Y. The only problem about it is that mines missing the cover. But so far this a sweet Bible.
wondering if you can post images of some of the family record items in the bible?
