Issued by the Soviet government in 1985 to sailors and soldiers of the Allied forces for delivering supplies through hostile water ways.
I traded a man at the flea market a couple of hotwheels cars for this medal. Wasnt sure of what it was when I got it, but I knew it was an interesting piece of history.
I never knew the Soviet Union every expressed their thanks to British and US forces. Turns out they have given a similar medal to suriving sailors and soldiers of WWII in 1985, 1995, and 2005.
Its pretty cool that they remember our Allied forces for their sacrifices and risks. Getting supply ships past the German u-boats and air force had to be pretty intense.
My grand-father served in the Pacific Fleet during WWII. I know that being in open water with hostile forces gunning for you had a high pucker factor. His stories were pretty intense.
