From Japan but I have yet to discover who made this.

Like China, Japan's earliest glass was cast, and although the technique was lost for hundreds of years the Japanese have a real love of it.

A number of high level glass artists in Japan work in cast glass and I would think one of them made this great vase.

I think this piece has a very Japanese aesthetic. Traditional shape, very pared back decoration.
The blue opaque glass has a mellow sheen to it, and the inclusion of the rusty brown is very organic.

Nothing else handles like cast glass. It has a warmth and life that isn't achievable with blown or pressed glass.

This is my calming vase. I love it.

Another wonderful piece Karen...I've heard this term before but wasn't really familiar with the exact process so I looked it up on Wiki. I would have just thought hmmm....frosted or satin glass. So it's the various types of the casting process that's the biggest difference from what I've read. You learn something new every day ! ;)

It does have an elegance you don't often see in bulbous forms! Can't put my finger on it.....

Thanks Ivonne for your love too.

There are a number of ways of casting glass Mike and apart from things having a distinctive look you can be sure it is very time consuming. No wonder most people blow glass.
Thanks for the interest - glad it piqued your curiosity.

Well said Peggy. Elegant and bulbous.
