Here's my latest little steamer trunk. This one is a rather small steamer trunk, measuring only 22" X 15" X 11". It's covered in patent leather and is 100% intact. The binding is fiber, but the corners and carry handle are leather. The barrel key was missing, but I was easily able to locate a key to operate the lock.
The interior is in very nice condition. Both the tray and interior are fabric lined. The leather carry handle is in very nice condition. It's difficult to read, but the leather handle has the name "SARAH L. JEWETT" embossed into it. I would love to know a bit of history about Ms. Jewett.
Judging by the remaining remnants of travel decals, on this one, Ms. Jewett evidently was well traveled. The best decal on the trunk is one from "UNION-HOTEL LUCERNE". I confirmed with Mr. Andreas Augustin, President of FamousHotels.org in Vienna, Austria, that this hotel was most definitely located in Lucerne, Switzerland.
A BIG thanks to our CW friend Drill for furnishing me with the web links to confirm the hotel location shown on the decal. THANK YOU!!!
I'd place this one around the late 1920s or 1930s. I'm also not sure if this one was American made or not. But, based on the style and design, this is more than likely a Swiss made trunk.
Thanks for stopping by and having a look!!

Kicking it up a notch with this one great steamer. Jewett is popular name where i grew up in Nova Scotia.
Thanks Caperkid!! I believe this one came from Massachusetts. But, who knows, maybe it originated from Nova Scotia? It's quite possible.

Hey Scott,Some thoughts: FamousHotels.com has a listing of Famous hotel openings worldwide by country.I'll have a look around and see if I can date the sticker. You may have a try looking up Jewitt.org because it seems the 97th Jewett family in America Reunion took place July 31st- Aug 2 2015 in Rowley Mass. They have boatloads of Genealogy records from what I can tell (Even a president and Association)as there seems to be a long history.Who knows ,maybe their even helpful. Much luck. As Far as the trunk it has many of the characteristics of a european trunk, maybe even a swiss one.The cut of the corner bindings, handle, rivet patterns etc.but I could be wrong. The Lausanne region produced trunks of a similar style. As always ,I could be painfully wrong. Wondering if there were any Famous Gotthard Railway stickers on this one ,that would be neat as it could have been the mode of travel for this little one?
Still yet another great trunk.
Thomas, Thanks so much for your very kind comment, as always. Thanks for the love and thanks for dropping by. Always appreciated!!
Drill, I wish there was more remaining of the other decals left on this trunk. I'm going to do some searching of my own on the Jewett family and see what I can find. You're always extremely helpful, and I've never known you to be wrong. I'm thinking this too could be Swiss made. I know a lot of European trunk trays had fabric bottoms (in lieu of a solid wood bottom). This tray bottom is completely fabric construction.
Thank you my friend for all of your help!!! Always extremely appreciated!!!!
