katherines…

I don't like to bring home pieces that are damaged, sometimes that happens inadvertently, so blinded by the beauty of a piece that I don't notice the flaws. In this case, I saw that the base of this cup was chipped, which wasn't surprising, it is so delicate, and delicately made, but I didn't care. 4" across the bowl, with a tiny delicate handle. Appears to be hand made, beyond eggshell thin, beautifully painted with cherry blossoms decorated with the most delicate moriage I've ever seen, trimmed with gold including on its enchanting twig handle, all of that is visual beauty and with that, the cup feels absolutely exquisite in the hand and to the touch, something I'd never experienced before. The odd thing is, it doesn't appear to have been made with an eye for perfection, there are production flaws such as a bit of clay lumped just inside the lip of the cup and a slight pit on the outside surface. So a flawed beauty. I hope you enjoyed seeing this cup, and thanks for looking.
That's a real BEAUTY indeed!!!! Chipped bottom or not.

It is very beautiful Katherine. Japanese you think? Looks handpainted.
Sometimes they see flaws as a part of beauty and so don't correct them.
silky porcelain yes a beatiful feeling in hand
Thanks for the love, aura, and kivatinitz. :)
Thanks, Karen, it is extraordinarily beautiful every way, hand made and hand painted. No question it is Japanese, and yes it did occur to me that the flaws are part of the aesthetic. Something I don't understand too well. :)
Thanks, kivatinitz, I've held a lot of pieces of porcelain in my time, this is beyond anything I've ever experienced, it is a different level of sensory exquisiteness. It has literally expanded my understanding of what porcelain can be. :)

No flaw, though, in your description! Wonderful piece of writing!
