You know how it is sometimes, you acquire something at a fraction of it's value and the fist pumps and you yell YES! and admire yourself as well as the object?

    This is my object!

I have a small sake cup from Kuniaki which was all I could afford of this masters works and dreamt of one day having one of his vases.
Recently I saw a vase for sale in Japan that I was sure was a Kuniaki but clearly the seller had no idea. I bought it.
Imagine my excitement opening that box........the vase was everything I expected and more, and yes, on the base was signed Kuniaki, in correct script.

A typically delicate art piece from this master executed on a graceful shape.
Beautiful blue glass, clear cased, decorated with gold and glass enamels.

    Yippee!! I'm a bit happy.....

you dont get off that easily for your cheapo object! I'm the same with my "crowned" tango piece, never thought I'd be able to get a piece, they go for $300-400...but at the time had no idea what it was worth because I don't buy it. She had no idea too, so she said I think $80 or $90...so I agreed. But until I received it I too had no idea just how beautiful it was and it's truly my best piece. I've had other wins but this one, it just haunts me in a good way. But strangely, I love almost every item I have and don't have the heart to sell those that I don't....lol....

Now, youre wondering why I said you don't get off that lightly....you have to tell us about the artist and the types of items he produces, is he still alive? Is he hard to come by, do many ppl collect him...if you don't mind, as I like to see that type of info as it interests me. Some people don't even read the writing, they just look at the pretty pictures...I like to read up on information about the item which is why I write such lond descriptions and engage in so much writing when I'm here....So come on, bit of bakground...lol...
I love the colours, divine..the "enamelling" is really clever, it adds another dimension to it. It's really lovely, I've not seen that before I dont think....
Take care and if I don't chat before Christmas have a good one... :)

You are quite right Anne, I should have given more info.
This is how I will lazily do it- refer you to my other Kuniaki post!
      http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/144999-kuniaki-kuroki-sake-cup

I don't see much new work from Kuniaki now so I think he has retired or nearly so. He is very sought after in Japan but like many Japanese artists virtually unknown in the West. I fully expected to never own one of his larger works, and this one for me is a balance between my little sake cup and his OTT vases.
BTW - much of my glass is now coming directly from Japan (at huge postage cost as you would expect).

May I say it wasn't really cheapo - just cheap for him! Like you with your Tango a bargain for what I paid.
I too have some very cheap pieces I love, and some just so so, but I will keep them. I'm selling off some of my Scandi and Czech glass now, there is no room for it all and Japanese is my current interest. Hard to do but it's all in boxes and I don't get to appreciate it so it's someone elses turn.

Sorry the chemo is still kicking you about. You are a trooper!
I'm sure you will be overjoyed to be spending another Christmas with your children, friends and delightful grandsons! Buon natale.

Nice pontil with the traditional chamfer. It alone to me shows the artists attention to detail and a sense the object was not rushed into market.

I recently acquired three boxed sets of two hashioki by this artist which I will be posting, soon. They are fancy.
