I was walking thru a building in my town that was scheduled for demo.most of the building was full of trash, but when i got into the attic I found this wall with all the paintings on it . it only has one name "Gehard Peterson" 1877. I cut the wall down and brought it home. it`s15 ' long and 6' tall. i sure would like to know how to preserve it. any ideas?
BEAUTIFUL Artwork.
Thanks for saving and sharing. It looks as though a sign painter used the wall to practice his craft. The one painting and face may even be self portraits.
Thanks again for sharing this masterpiece!
Awesome folk art. It would be really interesting if you could find out more personal information about the artist. A Gehard Petersen of Davenport IA is mentioned in the following link, from GenWeb, as the brother and associate of a newspaper owner. http://www.celticcousins.net/scott/chapter29.html The piece is written by Gerard's brother, and is an account of the cultural contributions of German settlers in Scott Co. and Davenport. What kind of building was the wall from, could it have been a newspaper office at one time? Thanks for sharing the pics.
