One of the first valve radios that I purchased is this beautiful Australian classic, the AWA Radiolette model 27 called the “Empire State”. This radio was built in 1934 and was modelled on the design of the Australian Wireless Association office building in Sydney. This is the taller of two very similar models at approx 42cm (17 inches) tall. This model was marketed to New Zealand. The radio receives only AM band. Unlike the bakelite “Empire State” radios that AWA would produce in the next couple of years, this model is made of wood which provides it with a timeless elegance, and wonderful warm tones, both in looks and in sound.

      Another gorgeous radio.
I can only see a slight resemblance to the AWA building (I'm in Sydney) but I believe you when you say they modelled this on it!

Yes racer4four, there is only a slight resemblance. I guess we have to take into account the artistic license on the design :-)

Very classy looking. A great alternative to the cathedral radios.

Except the AWA building in Sydney didn't start construction until 1937, so a 1934 radio can't have been modelled off it.
