My local thrift store find today, $1 buy plus a whole lot more. Found this in the linen textile section bins. I can't believe I am finding things for only $1, it is so fun in the am hours, it feels fresh to shop there in the am hours.
The rug or whatever it is measures about 8 feet long, I was wondering where it came from and how it was made, it is very strange to me .
That's a bargain for $1 Billy!
It looks handmade and from wool, so will wear well. Beautiful piece.
This looks like something that would be put across the middle of a table (tapestry runner) with the ends over the sides of the table. Not so much as a tablecloth but as a decoration. It was very typical here in the Netherlands to see "carpets" on the tables!
Looks like knitting/crochet work. Doesn't appear to be machine made, as it's too uneven.
Thanks racer4four, I love that thrift store.
Efesgirl, I think you might be right, if I remember correctly, there where about 3-4 small square pieces like this in the bins but now are gone. Also on the back of this, there are some yellow spots, kind of like cat urine spots about 4-6 inches round.
