    Cast iron handles, suggesting possible military application? Squeezing handles drives two pins towards steel pad. Spring tang behind pins releases some of the pressure once the pins hit the pad. What is it?

      Is there two curling dips in the pad like on a stapler pad? I don't see where the cast iron would indicate military.

      Oh. I read that as ?SD. The D just looks faint at the bottom. Can't make out the first letter, maybe he can rub that and figure it out.

      Yep, looks to be a button fastener. The reason I asked about the dips like on a stapler is I was on that line.
