This is the only item I have of my grandfather's. As a child I loved taking it out to just hold it. I am looking for any information on this beautiful black onyx cross. My grandfather had it form about 1915 or so. At that time he lived in Santa Rosa, California. There are no marks what so ever on it. The cross is solid black in color and as smooth as glass. I would love to know just how old it could be and where could it have come from? We have been all over the inter-net and can not find anything.

Does it have a hole for hanging on the chain? Those designs were made in the Victorian era as mourning jewelry became fashionable. Check out my posting of an onyx necklace with a similar design.
Yes, there is a small hole. The cross was found inside the wall of a "very" old house grandpa was taking down.
