My good friend in Canada sent me these photo tonight. Said a fellow brought this object to his art club looking for information. Belonged to his grandfather. Said it is more than 100 years old.

The label on the back says "No. 2 St. Nicholas". I had a look on the net in Google Images and managed to find something similar.
Looks to me like a panel that has been downsized. Not in the best of condition! (The brown and white background is just the bedspread).

    All opinions welcome!

      It's definitely a Russian Icon.

Russian Orthodox. Looks very old, late 19th century? Every house in every village would have such or similarly-styled (pressed metal riza -silver or gold tone) icon hung in a corner of a room decorated with an embroidered handmade linen towel and a candle on a table underneath.
