    Collectoma…
    (68 items)

    Happy New Year Everyone :)
I got off work a little early today and darted into a goodwill store just before their early closing and found this nice item. In all honesty, I've never heard of Kutahya pottery before, and am currently on a learning curve with this item. At the moment of finding it, on the markdown shelf of all places, I saw in my eyes a wonderfully hand painted item that was 'signed?' as far as I could tell. So, I am home now......peeled off the 99 cent price tag, and took some pics for my CW friends. I feel blessed this was a good way to end my year of pickin'.
Wishing Everyone !! a great year ahead for collecting and may you find many cherished items to share with us all in the new year.
    Cheers, Collectomaniac.

Kütahya ceramics .... Turkish communities in Australia and around the world are importing goods from Turkey and specifically Kütahya province. Long history of ceramic manufacture outlined here:
      http://www.vam.ac.uk/content/journals/research-journal/issue-03/kutahya-ceramics-and-international-armenian-trade-networks/

Pieces are cropping up these days in second hand stores here.

Çini is the Turkish term for Ceramic or China.
    3. vetraio50 vetraio50, 9 years ago
I think this one reads 'imaj çini'.

With a little online study, and some help from vetraio50, it seems the text might read: Image Ceramic
      Kutahya
Figen (a Turkish female first name)

No, not "Image". The Turkish word for image is "görüntü. I used to live in Turkey and saw many, many ceramics made in Kütahya. I have a charger posted here from Kütahya. I have asked one of my Turkish friends about "Imai" and "Fiyen".

      Answer from my friend Nefes:

"imaj cini Kütahya by Figen...imaj cini is her shop atelier name."

imaj cini is the name of the shop belonging to a woman named Figen. So - it turns out that the word is Imaj instead of Imai, so that does mean Image. Both görüntü and imaj mean "image".
