    Hello CW Friends!!
We had some really wet and unseasonably warm weather during the holidays here in Kentucky. Since I was on vacation, I decided to go ahead and steam out the old dry rotted lining from my striped canvas covered trunk and reline it.

I happened to have some really cool looking indoor/outdoor striped canvas that we had used for our patio umbrella and glider cushion this past summer. It was also nice to make use of the leftover fabric.

I thought the pattern suited this trunk well and decided to reline it with the leftover fabric from last summer. The last pic is what the original interior looked like before I steamed it out and relined it.

Since we're using this one for storage, I decided to leave out the compartment from inside the lid. It didn't turn out too terribly bad, or at least I thought so.

Anyway, thanks for stopping by to have a look!!

    Scott

The perfect material for the lining scott -- overall great look to the trunk -- did you spray glue it in? In all my trunk work I have yet to do an interior -- well I did one rather poorly -- wallpapered it and it looked like crap! Good material is the best starting point....

      trunkman,
Thanks very much!! It's so good to here from you again!! No, I did not use spray in glue. I always use Elmers glue when applying fabric to the inside of a trunk. I buy it buy the gallon. It's adheres much better and it there to stay once it's installed.
Thanks for the nice comment and for stopping by.

You're welcome. So you use regular old Elmers white glue to hold the fabric? This isn't some kind of special type of Elmers? Do you glue the fabric to cardboard and then glue the whole panel in to the trunk? I'm interested in doing an interior in fabric but haven't taken the leap yet, procrastination and stuff you know.
    34. jscott0363 jscott0363, 9 years ago
      FatBoy,
Yep, just Elmer's regular white glue is what I use. Now, with that being said, I also use a very heavy fabric such as canvas, trial the glue onto the surface of the trunk that the fabric will be applied, so it's a very thin coat, and glue in the fabric as you would wallpaper. It's water soluble, easy cleanup and it's there to stay. I've used this method for years and it's proven to work quite well. Hope this helps!
