I found this one at a local antique mall, they said it had been sitting around for a week so I took it off their hands. It's in really good shape except for about a hundred years of wear and tear so I think if I clean it up it should look pretty good, it even has a couple of old stickers on it still. It's a Duguid wall trunk but it is the shorter steamer trunk type. I really have no idea what to do with this one, a typical problem here it would seem, but I thought it was too cool to pass up.
FatBoy,
That really does look to be in really great condition! That is the first steamer sized Wall Trunk I've ever seen. I did not know they ever made a Wall trunk of this height. Great find!!
A Very good find and yeah, I have only seen this trunk one other time a few years ago .You really don't see many of this size wall trunk.
I kinda figured this was something different when I saw it, usually they are a lot taller.
Thanks for the comments and loves folks.
Very different indeed fatboy64. I too was not aware of this size existing for a wall trunk. Mind you I have never really looked. But again why would one need a wall trunk of this size. ( not you..lol but in general) Its not like one would just leave it on your floor and the weight is not like a full size trunk if needed to be pulled from the wall. I am pondering this week getting one being offered in exceptional condition all complete with tray & labels. The lid though has diamonds of ribbon pattern on the inside like a Louis Vuitton. I am still trying to justify the asking price as most just through them out there with a high price only because of lack of research and or understanding. Very cool and I to thought it was something different as you did when I first saw it. Thus continued to poke around for more info and that lead me straight to you...lol...small world!! Thanks for listing it!!
I really like the pierced cast metal format of your front corner. The one I am looking at has the cheap stamped style and as well no strap set up. It has different trim and stamped latches so Yours is for sure older. Patent dates are 1891. the one I am looking at I believe to be after 1900 and yours would be older for sure. Great find!!
Wow, I've also never seen one of these. Really good find.
