Large slat trunk made in Fall River MA by the Fall River Trunk Company. There is a small section of the original label on bottom of the trunk. Purchased the trunk a few months ago on CraigsList, bonus it has a key. It isn't as old as the small toy on the right, trunk experts have dated it around late 1890s to 1915, based on the hardware.
It is a large trunk 35 wide and 25 inches tall. First picture is the before, I added my two toy slat trunks for some of the other pictures. I love the look of slat trunks and the beauty of the wood when it is refinished. The interior is missing the tray it does have the compartment in the lid. I haven't done any restoration on the interior yet. I'm excited to be almost done so wanted to post pictures.
There are more before pictures in a post I did about 2 months ago.
That really is a BIG trunk! Just incredible looking to say the least!
jscott0363 - I need to stick with buying the toy trunks as you say this is big, there is a space limitation on how many of these big guys you can have. It was just to beautiful to pass up, how many times have we all said that.
officialfuel thanks for the love.
Wonderful Kathy, and I do like it Refinished in black rather than the gold.Neat seeing them all together thanks for the post.It cleaned up well.
Oh yeah, the black looks very sharp. Great pic of the three together, almost like a family thing.
Now , That's a very nice collection of oak slats
Wonderful job KathyKay. I know what you mean about limitations
124 of them and still counting.
What happened to the right latch? If your in need of one I might be able to help.
bjb5859 - 124 that is a lot of trunks. I have the right latch it was falling off when I purchased the trunk. I didn't take the time to get it back on before I took the pictures.
Drill and FatBoy thanks for the nice comments. I went with the black instead of the brass, because I think it brings out the beauty of the wood more.
