This trunk measures w 28"x h 20 " x depth 17 1/2 ". It was in my wife's Grandmother's attic for as long as she can remember and was rumored to have traveled the Oregon Trail. On the inside tray is marked ARMOUR in bold black lettering. Any idea of who manufactured it and could it have come out on the early Oregon Trail? Thank you.

Nice family heirloom -- probably made around 1890 or so. The word Amour may have come from another piece of wood crate that was re-purposed for the trunk -- is the pice of wood with the word on it attached to the trunk somehow -- hard to tell with the picture -- may also be the name of an owner. Unfortunately the Oregon trail was at a much earlier time than this trunk was made so kinda rules that out. Hope this helps...

Thank you "trunkman". I added another picture so you can see the board on the tray. Another trunk dealer in Canada said that it was not a US made trunk and the hardware looks like hardware that was made in the UK. Also agreed that the board was a replacement more than likely. The story is that the trunk originated in Norway, came to NY, South Dakota and then to the Oregon/Washington area. My wife's Grandmother was born in 1910(S Dakota) and 5 years old when she headed west. Great Grandmother was born in Norway in 1865. Thank you again. Kent

You are very welcome! Not to disappoint -- however all of the hardware on this trunk strongly suggests that it is a North American made trunk. This has standard issue parts that many trunks here have -- nothing about the hardware that would suggest otherwise (in my opinion). A European made trunk, particularly from Norway, have a distinctive look and style that does not bear much similarity to this one. Now having said that, it does not mean that it did not come from there, as many North American trunks where shipped overseas only to return.

I appreciate your comments and no I am not disappointed at all. For most of our married life it was just a trunk from her Grandmother's attic. Thank you.
