    Collectoma…
    (68 items)

I bought this neat ashtray today to add to the collection. I could tell it was unique, and in nice condition. Funny thing was it was not in the ashtray section at one of my favorite g.w's, it was mixed in with oddball relish dishes and other small bowls, etc. but among other things, the little cigarette saddle caught my eye and I put a death grip on the thing from there on. I'm not sure, and have some lingering questions about it if anyone can answer. I did 30min. research and nothing so far. Wondering if it's Eapg? Art deco? and what the 2 other compartments could have been used for. A pattern name and maker would be a bonus. It measures 6" across not including the little handles, and 5.5" in width.

I have a larger version of these Collecto. They're a snack/party tray that can hold a sandwich etc., a punch cup, and of course the ashtray in the corner. I have the matching cups with my set. They sit in the section above the ashtray. Handy for bridge and card parties back in the day. :)

This is part of a snack/party set marketed as 'Orchard Crystal' by Newland, Schneeloch and Piek c1940-50s. NSP was a wholesaler, importer and factory rep, and did not make glass but had their own designs. Hazel-Atlas made their glass originally but later so did on Indiana/Colony. These are sometimes listed as 'Candlewick' because of the bead design and the punch cup that was part of the set. This is the smaller snack tray, as there is a larger one with same design.

Well I guess I was sort of wrongish...Tall cakes to the rescue ! :)

Yep, they are also seen listed as Boopie because of the matching beaded design. "R" has it listed as Hazel-Atlas #1305. It was simply marketed as a 'party-set' including the tray and punch cup. Punch cups were also sold separately in 3 sizes.

Thanks for the loves Caperkid and racer4four, and Thanks sooo much for the info and loves Tallcakes and mikelv85. And from what you've said, I think I understand that It could be a design we might see referred to as either Candlewick or Boopie, and manufactured by Hazel Atlas. Or is it just referred to as Candlewick when in a set? Perhaps there were variations with the ensemble of different party sets? I get a kick out of the thought of resting a smoke by a sandwich. A true past example of the epitome that smoking was ok perhaps.

I get it now :) It's Orchard Crystal. Thank-you Tallcakes. Armed with your info I found this site. Did you know the best way to tell the difference is to look at the balls. Candlewicks balls don't touch each other, Boopie balls do. Amazing ! lol. http://bargainhuntingandtreasureseeking.blogspot.ca/2010/02/is-it-boopie-or-candlewick.html

what do you call this depends on if referring to the embroidery art called candlewicking or candlewick or the Candlewick glassware pattern by Imperial Glass. Either way the name comes from the embroidery method of backstitching and tying knots using candle wicks. The knots become little thread beads or balls on the surface of the fabric. So the use of the term candlewick begins to make sense in glass patterns, and many folks use the term to describe any beaded glass. Imperial 'Candlewick' is the most recognized and often copied pattern of beaded glassware. Check the Candlewick lookalikes website: http://www.candlewicklookalikes.com/
Boopie is a term that collectors applied to Anchor Hocking's 'Berwick' pattern. That term stuck and has grown to include references to beaded glass in general.
Thus you get the interchange of candlewick and boopie meaning the same thing, which is fine until you go searching for a particular beaded glass pattern.

Hi Collecto....I knew I had a complete boxed snack set somewhere but wasn't sure if I had posted (2 years ago !) them. This shows a blend of patterns. The beaded handle teacups which are paired with oval trays in a spiral wheat sheaf pattern. "Homestead" by Federal Glass Co. -Mike- :)

The snack sets are also referred to as "Sip 'n Smokes." My grown children rest their chopsticks in the cigarette holder, when eating sushi. I just use the cigarette section for more snacks, and prop my fork in the holder. By the way, the smallest setting on a Keurig is the perfect size to fill the cup from this set.
