These were me Sainted Grandmother's - and she had them my whole life. She was born in 1898. I have a pair. They are each 9.5 inches tall, including lids. One was damaged in the Loma Prieta earthquake, 1989! I have some questions about these I need help with from the experts!

    1) What do you call the flowers and other design elements on these?

    2) They are both impressed on the bottoms near the edges MADE IN CHINA. Age? Bear in mind I think these were possibly give to my grandmother for her wedding - I have no one to ask. She supposedly had an uncle that traveled in Asia -I have several items that were hers that she had all her life.

    3) What do you call the brass wires (walls?) that comprise the designs, and contain the enamel? They are SO elaborate! They are brass, as are the bodies of the jars. (I have NOT polished the metal, and will not!)

    4) How rare is Black & White Cloisonne? I don't see many on line. The interiors and bottoms are blue enamel.

    5) I am preparing to sell these - should I sell them as a pair even though one is damaged? The damaged one can be situated on a shelf where you cannot see any damage. I know a pair is a premium, but what if one is damaged? (I can post the damaged one as another post here, so you can see!) OH - the other one is NOT perfect, it has one small ding on it that has been there as long as I have known these.

    6) LIDS- inside both lids, there is writing, AH PR? and G PR? on one - in black wax crayon, and the other 986 TT G-PR in red wax crayon. Any ideas?

These are almost a perfectly mirrored pair. You have to look REALLY hard to find the subtle differences that show the spectacular handmade nature of these. I could only do it comparing the lids!

Your help would be MOST appreciated! I'd like to present these on the auction site I'll be posting them on to their best advantage, because, well I'm broke, and I have a mortgage to pay!! I'M NOT ASKING FOR VALUATION - just guidance! These have been in my life my WHOLE life - and they were mine when the Loma Prieta quake happened in 1989. Keeping one would be nice, but not crucial... Sigh...

    Thank you for your help!

What about around the upper rim - are those clouds? And around the bottom - fish scales? I don't find any examples of this particular intricate design.

Rucklczglass - what would you call this design if you had one term to title it that someone doing a search might find? I'm STILL trying to find a similar pattern!
