A classic. Cast iron, beehive-shaped, functional and beautiful. I don't use a lot of string these days, but hey. Might be good for dispensing something else stringy, like liquorish :)

I like the string holder. I purchased an identical one through an online auction a couple of weeks ago. The information on mine indicated a date of 1865, but with no source for the date.

Do you have any additional information about the holder?

      Thanks for sharing.

I don't have any more info - sorry. I do know that these are fairly common; they seem to show up on eBay regularly. Some don't have as much detail. Dave

well if it doesn't say taiwan or korea -- it probably is an oldie and not a repro -- i use mine all the time in my sewing -- works great for the fishing line when i have to strangle a pincushion i have made to keep it sealed after filling with emery -- it's like and extra set of hands -- which one needs with fishing line -- happy holidays petrero
