A very unique dome top with original stenciled slats and a combination of zinc and steel slat clamps. This beautifully embossed leather trunk has been treated with klucel-G,a leather consolidate that gives the old leather new life. This is a very well built trunk with 3/4 inch thick side walls . Cast iron handle holders and new hand stitched heavy duty leather handles as well has a new lid lifter.
A solid brass lock patent dated May 11 1875 with original key that works perfectly. This very sturdy trunk measurer’s 30 inches across 19 inches front to back and 24 inches high.
Thanks for looking
Absolutely stunning trunk!!!! This one is just incredible in every way!
Really wonderful work, love the look ,the contrast of embossed zinc and steel slat clamps is awesome. I have not seen this combination before. That klucel-G sure worked wonders to bring the leather back up. What a keeper. Thanks for eye candy.
Thanks jscott0363 and Drill
This was an interesting trunk to do,first one I have seen with stenciled slats. Leather trunks are always a bit easier to do when the leather doesn’t have to be removed.
Thanks To everyone else as well
Oh my... how BEAUTIFUL... fabulous restoration! Stunning trunk -- going to try to get some of that leather treatment. This trunk to me represents the pinnacle of trunk craftsmanship -- superior.
Thanks ,trunkman
Just so you know,Klucel-G works best with leather that has lost its finish or what they call red rot.Sounds bad, but its not the end of the world. It really does a nice job going all the way threw the leather and softening ,as well as preserving it.
I have seen the slat edges stained a darker color before. It was on a Martin Maier wood slat trunk. Similar color variations to the edges on the slats of this trunk. I have not seen stencil work on the slats before, quite rare .
Sweet. Nice job!
