Italian Measuring Cups

Hello ,
My grandfather brought these nesting measuring cups with him when he left Sicily and came to America. My father recently showed me them to me and we wanted to get a little information about them. We do not know much, but here is the information we have: We are unsure of what time period they are from, but know they were made in Italy.They are extremely heavy for there size. On the biggest cup is the Roman numeral XII. Additionally, we noticed that there are 6 circles on the top of the set and circles on each of the cups, except the smallest. Any information anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated! Comments welcome
