This trunk that measures 32"x18"x22"h was previously owned by someone I knew that was in the merchant navy during the First World War. It has been used to store blankets in a family holiday home for the past 50 or so years. There are no marks or labels on it to help with identifying where or when it was made. I would like to know if it is worth restoring as the beautiful mission brown finish is looking a bit tired. Could somebody possibly help. Thanks
You are at the right place !!
A lovely trunk from around early 1900's. It is easy enough to take off the canvas and the paint from the wood slats -- would make it look really great and worth the effort. This style and type of trunk is common and it would not effect value, which is not high to begin with. Good luck with the project!
I just bought a trunk VERY similar to this. It has top of the inner lid section still in tact. I am in the process of stripping it. I am looking to find out where it may have came from and approx. date. Thanks for sharing
I should also mention that on the one end, in a certain light I could see large initials " JML".
