This ring has historical connections to the American Revolutionary War and The Hermitage. It has an outer of a high karat yellow gold and the interior of a rose gold (18 and 15k). The outside states: Ann Margt Prevost OB 10 OCT 1809 AE 67." To the center of the ring is an oval glazed compartment enclosing Mrs. Prevost's hair. The interior of the ring has the French inscription " elle sut bonne" (she was good). The ring measures 17 mm diameter, weighs 3 g. Ann was born in Lausanne, Switzerland. She was the daughter of the Dutch Army General and The Chevalier, Isaac Jean Georges Jonas Grand (his brother was Benjamin Franklin's banker) and Anne Lalouet. On 29 August 1765 she married Augustin Prevost ( his brother's widow later married Aaron Burr) from Geneva, Switzerland, a Major-general in his Majesty's army, Colonel of the 2nd battalion of the 60th regiment. He entered the service of Great Britain in 1756, and distinguished himself in the memorable defense of Savannah, Georgia in 1779. My own notorious Loyalist relative, Moses Kirkland, worked with Major Prevost in his attempt to defeat the Patriots & most likely met Mrs. Prevost. The Prevosts are buried in the family crypt at St Mary The Virgin Church, East Barnett, England.

Wow!! Awesome history with this ring:) how did you find it?
    9. vintagelamp vintagelamp, 9 years ago
Trey, I found it on line last year but the shop in England would not lower the price. In the meantime I did research and found out that my loyalist relative knew Mr. and most likely Mrs. Prevost. Whenever I tried to purchase it again it was in the shop's "back room" and could not be purchased. It finally came up for sale again, I made an offer and it was accepted! The shop own said a Huguenot Museum in England was trying to purchase the ring and that was the reason the ring was in the back room. I am so thrilled to have this ring, especially with the family connection and the portrait of Mrs. Prevost. Thank you for the comment!

Well I'm glad you got it, it's almost like you were meant to have it.

Trey, That is what I told the shop owners! It was meant to be!
