I bought this lampshade at a thrift store, got it for 10.00 because it has some significant damage. I know it is a Tiffany pattern Poppy lampshade, but how do tell if it's authentic? There are no markings. ...oh...and no base.
The shade was so filthy I could not tell there was colored glass under the leaves circling the base. I thought it may have been plastic from the way it felt when I tapped, but I took out a broken piece and indeed it is glass. It's very heavy and about 20 1/2 diameter.

Hello, I love these old lamp shades! This certainly looks to me like a Tiffany period shade (1900-20). The glass looks beautiful. Have you looked for a marking on the inside horizontal bottom rows? Could be an original Tiffany shade in my opinion... Great, great deal for $10. Worth fixing, but get it done by an expert.

Hello. Don´t take it as offense please, but it isn´t worth anything from the point of view antique or arts and crafts. From what I can identify on the picture, it is most probably a newer Tiffany reproduction ( perhaps 20-30 years old ), made out of rather cheap industrial glass, wrong shape ( compared to Tiffany Studios Poppy shades) , presumably built on a Worden polystyrene mold, the cap is soldered to the top, which should not be the case ( there should be a solid ring instead while the vent cap must remain removable ) and last not least the reinforcement ring on the bottom is missing , which is one reason for this considerable damage. If you like its appearance when lit and consider repair, an average stained glass shop should be able to do the job for 250- 500 $ or so , if it´s done properly (including top and bottom rings )

Thanks for all the comments. Elie, no offense taken...this is the info I was looking for, I too thought the soldered cap looked to rough, but.. I have never seen and authentic Tiffany Lamp. Thanks much for the information!

I made a couple of poppies in the past. Two of them can be seen here:

Oh my Elie, those are so beautiful...you are so talented!!! I am in ah of the beautiful work you have done. Do you also create your own designs?? If so I would love to view them.

very rarely, it´s just a lot of additional work on one hand and would not look much
different from Tiffany Studios design on the other . My ego is very reduced in this matter ;-)

Hi, sorry to say I agree that it is a repo. The quality of Tiffany s work is outstanding.

Even as a repro I'm going to look for it, because I still love it. You've inspired me to reassemble and put up a stained glass lamp and shade I found in the trash. A couple of busted pieces of glass so I'll turn them to the back. I think it's pure junk so it's probably worth a fortune. LOL! Anyway, what exactly is this pattern, style, etc. called so that I might find one?
