Let me start off by saying this set is not actually complete. I just stuck other pennies in the empty holes. Of course those are the valuable ones but there are a just a few like 3 or 4.
Anyway my grandmother gave me this long ago as I liked old stuff even then. Which of course sent me on a few years of coin collecting.
One may note the red stain on the front. It came from the box next to it which held my other coins. Our house was burglarized 4 times within a couple months. So I hid my coin collection underneath a dresser drawer so it was sitting on the floor. One night a pipe to the toilet leaked and flooded the house with about an inch of water. Thus the red stain.
There were three extra spaces so I added the 1940 coins
I love this.nice set
But sounds like that was a bad year with your house being robed and a pipe broke.
I thought that stuff only happened to me since I am a murphy and live Murphy's law.
Nice collection. Do coins this old still turn up in circulation?
They do, Elanski. The oldest penny I've found in circulation was an 1890 in bank change. Second oldest was a 1924 D (semi-valuable) in store-change.
Thank you very much Gruff. It was the same villain I am sure. We got a dog and that ended the problem.
Thank you very much Thomas. Would that be the 1909 S VDB? Those are going over $600. The plain 1909 is much cheaper.
Coming soon will be a glass washboard.
Thank you very much elanski. The oldest ones I find are from the 1950s.
Thank you very much SpiritBear. You are luckier than I.
