I found this in an old junk box that I bought. It is about 2" long and the handle is mother of pearl shell. The tweezer (?) part has a loose metal ring that can be pushed up to hold the ends closed. The shell was carved out and made to fit your thumb. If anyone can help me find out what this is or what it was used for I would appreciate it. Thank you!

I agree with Hunter - a roach clip. It could also be used to help with bracelet clasps.
