Old metal chess set. Material is unknown. Origin unknown.

WHAT / WHO ARE THE CHARACTERS IN THIS SET? WHAT IS THE THEME?

Appears to be quite old and of some form of brass or copper blend of metals. Pieces are a bit heavy for their size.

I am intrigued by the odd characters in the set and wondering is anyone can tell me what the theme is or anything else about this set?

The theme looks like Middle Ages Feudal to my eye.
