Trunk received as a gift

I needed blanket storage so I received this trunk. It has two shipping labels, one labeled Kansas City, MO (pictured) and the second Columbia, MO (not pictured). Great history to my birth state. Doesn't seem like a high quality trunk but I'm still afraid to do much to it.
I plan on preserving the labels. I am lining the inside with stained maple and upholster a bench insert seat and back. Nothing to permanently change this old trunk but to simply make it useful to me.
