I came across both of these at Goodwill today. In fact they were right next to each other on the same shelf. The 8" x 4.5" bowl has been there for a while so I thought I'd better grab it. I love the decor, shape, and deep green color. Obviously hand thrown and slightly out of round. The incised horses gallop around the exterior and the interior of the bowls rim. I bet if you spun it around they'd move just like a flip book we made as kids. The hollow bottom pedestal bears a painted mark. Possibly the artist's signature. No damage and it has a nice clear ring so may be it's even a type of porcelain. Not a clue if it's antique or just pottery of the week. The little 7.5" spatter glass bud vase is actually quite nice for being a Japanese version of Czech spatter glass. Clearly stamped while the glass was hot "made in Japan" although a bit blurred. Could still be a vintage piece and I bet someone might know...oh Racer ! -Mike-
Thanks Thomas...yes those are always the best type of finds ! :)
Love them both, but for me, the bowl is a stunner......particularly as seen in picture one :)
Thanks so much Sklo....I did drag my feet on this one and I'm really glad I didn't miss it. :)
Really really LOVE this bowl!
Thanks MFT :) ..... the primitive horses are what really make this bowl. I just wonder if it could be old maybe Sung or Tang dynasty ...delusions of grandeur I know...lol
Nothing wrong with dreaming and hoping! Heck, you just never know if you'll come upon a true prize, something you can retire on LOL. In the meantime, hunting and researching is joy enough!
Amen to that ! :)
