Shortly after finding the Robert Medeu commissioned PG 1/84 vase I posted a couple of weeks ago (Loetz Commission PN 1335/5), I happened upon a vase that appears right next to it in the paper pattern designs for Medeu - Loetz Commission PN 1335/6. There are three decors listed for that shape - Violett verl. ciselé wellenopt (Violet spreading ciselé wave optic), Cephalonia, and also this decor - Violett m. Silberstreifen u. Silberpunkten (Violet with silver iridescent stripes and spots). There is a widespread notion out there that the Streifen & Flecken decors were created by Kolo Moser, but Loetz Bohemian Glass 1880-1940 (Cantz) leaves this concept a bit nebulous, even suggesting that the decor was "more likely" designed by Robert Holubetz for E. Bakalowitz Söhne. Truthfully, the decor (in different colors) is found on shapes attributed to both designers, not to mention on regular Loetz production later on (see Ausführung 122 and its variants on Loetz.com). But whether it was Kolo Moser or Robert Holubetz in 1901, a year or two later, this rare variation in violet with silver-iridescent stripes and spots was made for Robert Medeu & Co., Berlin. Of the 12 published patterns of Medeu & Co. commissions, three are offered in violet S&F, and one of the patterns indicates that a version in dark green was also made. Medeu was a bronze goods factory who ordered vases for mounting and lamp shades made largely to its own specifications. Kralik is also said to have made pieces in this decor and color - by comparison, I believe that the stripes and spots on the Loetz versions tend to have a more pronounced blue iridescence.

Very interesting... Some of the Robert Medeu & Co shapes comissioned by Lötz are also well known for Kralik vases: 1335/886, 1335/88, 1335/889. Shape 1335/886 also was used by Moritz Hacker (metal maker in Vienna).
