Well I didn't actually come home empty handed today. I had seen this piece at Volunteer's a week ago. Today it was still there, but I hesitate to buy gilded glass that's been swathed in tape. I know it's to keep the lid on but other stores use a saran cling type tape that doesn't damage gilding. So I stood there and carefully peeled the tape off. One little speck of damage and I would have left it behind. Success ! Perfect condition all gilding. all painting and no chips in the glass. I love the design. Sort of retro meets deco. I have seen this shape in other colors too . Smoke, blues, reds, with different painted and gilded designs. It's excellent quality glass. Very heavy and has a nice ring to it. The lid has a satin finish while the 5" diameter bowl is clear. The top of the bowl and the bottom of the lid are cut very flat clean and crisp not fire polished. No pontil on the bottom though. Most auctions say 60's but do not mention a maker. I'd say Euro but that's just a guess. -Mike-
Oh I know Ken ...... usually when there's just enough to possibly ID the piece and it lifts off with the price tag....agh !
Looks awsum. I collect 50's polka dot house wares, or what seem to be, and I really like this.
Funky little piece -- Candy dish -- Maybe Czech? Looks 1960's ( +/_ ) era
Sweet piece!!
I was just thinking how to describe the pattern to myself -- I think I would call it something like a * Confetti Design * -- IMHO, as I trying to look around
Thank you Collecto and Rose...I thought Czech as well . Seems to have that look. :)
Funky dish Mike!
Thanks Karen....I thought so too.... has a very "atomic age" look.
Gorgeous.....lovely design and perfect balance of colour and gilding :)
Thank you Sklo :)
Looks like confetti and streamers on a clown-style cap, sort of? It's very MCM, like it, Mike. :)
Thanks Katherine..that's why I was thinking Czech. They tend to have that whimsical flare at times.
Nice dish. I'm surprised that all the gold remained, that's a great thing.
Me too Share ...it survived the massive tape job they did on it which means it's really fired on well and not painted. :)
Nice find mike and dddiiittooo on the dang tape. So much is lost by this practice and I can't make any sense out of it.
Thanks for sharing. You did good.!
Thanks OGF...I make it a point to tell them all the time but it falls on deaf ears...lol
