this is another treasure I am rather fond of,,,,, perhaps because it has survived so long,, Folwell and his wife sorta had a school-- teaching young girls the fineries of growing up-- needle point and such,,, there is writing on verso-- dark with age and cannot read-- but was attributed to Folwell,,, most were done @ 1810 era,,, actually not bad shape . I believe Folwell would draw and paint the design--- the young girl would do the needle point

Wow! So fresh colors, and large size too!
So much work went into the embroidery...
I would be interested in seeing the back with the writing, you can upload up to 4 pics :-)

I collected these needle paintings/embroidery, you made me think about posting them :-)

thanks 4 comment-- have not pursued this in a while-- back is just old-darkened, think most of these were done on a silk,, actually I should think about having it lined somehow- to help preserve it,,, do know there have been some rather interesting auctions $$$ on these a while back- hard to believe,,, do not have buyer regrets on this one tho,,, LOL

I never heard of Folwell, so googled for his works and found the Sotheby's 2012 auction...
Incredible prices! But I know that, when it comes to early American pieces, things become crazy!
Nothing same here in France, with so much history behind us :-)
