Hey Mike!,
What's up brother, I love your show. Okay, I have an 1849 Colt Pocket Pistol that was in Grandma's Closet for years. We have tried to contact Colt to get more info on this pistol, however, we were told that the records from this pistol were burned in a fire of some sort. Anyway, it is great condition, and as you can see appears to be a complete set. All the numbers on the pistol match, and are as follows; COLT'S PATENT No. 49181. It also has a Well's Fargo type wagon on the cylinder. We have tried to come up with more info, but have come up short. I do believe it is a .31 Cal. I have been told it was valued between the ranges of $2,000.00 - $20,000.00. I highly doubt this pistol is worth $20,000.00, but that number was given by a small town gunsmith in Idaho. I was just hoping you guys would
know more about the history, and value of the firearm. I love the Old West, and would love to know if this pistol is from that type of era. If there is more info you guys need from me, I will be happy to provide whatever I can. Thanks again, you guys rock.
Thanks,
Dave Bruseau
P.S.
If you guys ever find yourself in Idaho, let me know, I think I might know some pretty awsome farm picks in the area of Vale, Oregon which is on the border of Idaho.
The serial number dates your gun to late 1852.
Do all the serial numbers match throughout the gun?
The case and tools will add a premium.
The gun is within your estimate, but a long way away from the top!
Okay, Scottvez I appreciate the information. Good to know when the pistol was manufactured. Yes all of the numbers match throughout. The number is on six different places on the pistol including the wedge ( I guess that is what it is called). With all this being said, I would guess the pistol to be in "good" condition, so could you or anyone give me an estimate on the value. I did not think the top of the scale I gave was even close, and you confirmed that. Thanks again for your time, and knowledge.
Dave, there is a similar cased set like yours on gun broker, they are asking $3,900 as a buy it now. It hasn't sold yet for whatever reason. This might give you a rough starting point as to value.
Thank you everyone for the help, it was greatly appreciated.
Condition makes a huge difference-- your appears to be in Fine condition (NRA antique). The box appears to be an original as well. With confirmation of condition and originality of the box and components, yours should bring $3000- $5000-- maybe even more based off of condition and the early date.
More 1849 models were made by Colt than any other model, so there are a lot out there. At the same time it is highly collected.
Post some more pictures and include the other side, bottom, etc...
Are you looking to sell?
