They finally finished the remodel at the Goodwill store near Cleveland so I decided to brave the barrage of resellers that descend on the place like locusts every Sunday. Two colors change every week for 50% off and $2.00 clearance items. People stalk and hide things in hopes of getting them for half price or better. They finally had the art wall back in place and that's where I found this nice mid-century winter landscape. I think it's a little less mass produced looking than what's typical of this style of painting. It was tucked behind one of those huge 80's pastel florals in a black frame. It turns out that I did find one other work by this artist that wound up at DuMouchelles Auctions in Detroit back in 2013. It was a small 8" x 10" winter landscape as well. They had fifty to seventy five on that, so I figure this will be worth a bit more because of it's size. No bargain here though it was full price. At least now I know it was worth standing in the checkout line for almost half and hour...OK twenty minutes. -Mike-
Thanks for the "love" BB2 :)
It's good enough to make me feel cold Mike! I never see original paintings in my local op shops. You do so well finding these!
Thank you Lisa for the nice compliment. Even though I'm so sick of winter right now I think so too. I love the sun rise/set as the focal point that leads you down the path and into the scene.
Thanks Karen....you know I had to torture myself and go back to Savers and see if the Kosta Boda vases were still there. They were gone...but I'm actually glad now I won't be tempted anymore. The Goodwill is on the way back home so I decided to stop. So here we have another consolation prize...lol. :)
I love the light in the picture. It must be winter sunset,I think.
Thanks Ivonne.... I've always wondered how you can tell sunrise from sunset especially in these paintings since you don't know which direction the artist was facing. :)
I judged after the colour.Where I live I can often see such sunsets from my kitchen window.Of course,I might be wrong as to your painting.
I really love winter scenes. Something about them seems to suggest solitude, quiet, & a more peaceful time. We have a number around the house including several of Johann Berthelsen's famous New York City paintings.
Thank you for sharing!
Thanks so much Harborguy for the "love" and comment. :)
Funny Mike and I know about the snow. It is a serene painting. Makes you want to be there. You are a true hunter to get out in it! Finally a break here. Geez it's beautiful to look at but really really sucks. Funny note: Never once in 16 years living in the south did I ever see a anything related to snow. It's all wicker and beaches.
I'm south sick here at home. ;)
I love the pic...
Thanks so much OGF for the "love" and compliment. :)
