Hello! my name is John and just yesterday I got a hold of this antique trunk and I would like to know more about it 'cause it belong to my grandpa and I'm curious about the history, the year that was made and its model and an estimate of its price, Im not planning on selling it due to its sentimental value, but i would like to know so i can restore it from the inside. So far I just know is an Eagle Lock brand and I believe is really rare since the company went out of business long long time ago.
The measurements of it is aproximately 29 by 19 inches, the inside part of it is a little busted but still in a pretty good shape.
Welcome nice post.
A trunk expert will be available soon lol.
Hi. Your trunk looks like an early to mid 1880's metal covered American made, cross slat, travel trunk. First, not really rare. Eagle made millions of locks that went on millions of trunks for decades. However, rarity does not always equal desirability. (see Ford Pinto, and any AMC car.) The style of your trunk is one less seen than others so that is a plus. It has been very well used and has many missing parts, such as the iron valance, latch, entire interior, and some of the covering. The trunk looks very nice the way it sits (good job!) and it was your grandfathers which makes it priceless. However, the going rate today would be around $100.00. Hope this helps,
Jim
